Nature and Sacrament in Paul Tillich: Contributions for contemporary sacramental theology
Aportes para la teología sacramental contemporánea
Keywords:
element, sacramental, power, Protestantism, WordAbstract
This article proposes a synthetic analysis of Paul Tillich's sacramental theology. It will develop his understanding of nature, the various interpretations of it –which serve as support for baptism and the Eucharist–, the profound interrelation between Word and Sacrament, and a critique of Protestant and Catholic sacramentality. Similarly, Tillich's fundamental distinction between «the sacramental» and the sacraments will be noted, as well as the power of religious significance of the sacraments for the church's liturgy. The article seeks to open avenues of dialogue for contemporary sacramental theology, the recovery of the sacramental element for the Protestantism and the revaluation of sacramental experience as sacred time and space.
